STEP-BY-STEP HELP

1.      The City of Memphis GIS Data can be accessed using a number of tools.  Our default viewer is our web viewer found at http://mapview.memphistn.gov.  The data that drives this site can also be added as a layer in desktop mapping tools such as Google Earth.  Currently the following layers are available as KML (Google Earth Format) data services.

Fire Stations / Zones - http://mapview.memphistn.gov/arcgis/services/Emergency_Services/MapServer/KmlServer

Voting Districts – http://mapview.memphistn.gov/arcgis/services/Voting_Zones/MapServer/KmlServer

(more to come)

2.      Adding Network Link in Google Earth – These step-by-step instructions will show you how to add a single network link (Fire Stations and Fire Station Zones for our example), but keep in mind that these same steps can be used to add any of the available KML layers

a.      Open Google Earth

c.      The New Network Link Dialog Box will appear.  Fill out the Form as Follows and click the OK button:

·        Name – Memphis – Fire

·        Link - http://mapview.memphistn.gov/arcgis/services/Emergency_Services/MapServer/KmlServer

·        Refresh Tab – View-Based Refresh (When: After Camera Stops / 1 secs)

·        Keep all other defaults

d.      The layer has now been added in the My Places window and added to the map.  To see the new layer type Memphis, TN search box (under the Fly To tab) and hit Enter.  The map will zoom and center to Memphis and display the new layer.  You may have to zoom in close to see the labels of each fire station and district.

3.      Repeat the steps above to add other layers with a unique name and link address.
